Pre-need arrangement packages have become increasingly popular for a number of reasons. At Martin's Home For Service Inc, we offer these comprehensive packages.

You make plans in advance for most major events in your life, such as your wedding, buying a car or a home, college tuition or the birth of a child. However, you may not think to plan your own funeral in advance. Don't leave this important life decision in the laps of your loved ones when you can pre-plan it yourself.

When you pre-plan your service with Martin's Home For Service, your funds are deposited into a FDIC trust account (Choices) managed by the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association. Your funds will earn interest and the funeral home will accept the interest of the increases for final expenses.

What you need at your pre-planning appointment: 

• Download our pre-need arrangement and registration form and fill it out or fill out the registration form online
  
• Download our authorization form and fill it out
• Someone with you if possible or wanted
  
• Minimum of $500.00 check made out to “Choices” to open the trust account

Choosing the right funeral home is very important and should be made the same way as when selecting any professional business. You should select a funeral home that has a good reputation in the community and is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA). If you are unfamiliar with your local funeral homes, ask a relative, friend, hospice, clergy person or doctor for a recommendation, or call the NFDA at 800-228-6332 for a listing of member funeral directors in your community.

You can meet with our funeral directors in advance to determine who you are comfortable with and to learn about the range of affordable services we offer.

State laws and the court will decide how your assets are treated and even the future of your children following your death. Therefore the absence of a will prevents you from making the decisions about how you want these important issues handled. Your will should be reviewed and updated every few years as necessary due to any life changes.

After your passing, your will can be probated in court. The court must approve the executor and an estate inventory will be prepared and filed. Taxes and debts must also be recognized and often an attorney or accountant may be involved in this process.

It is also important to remember your Social Security benefits must be applied for. They are not paid automatically. These benefits must be applied for within a specific time frame. You will need the following documents to claim Social Security benefits:

If you are an honorably discharged veteran, you or your family may be entitled to a number of educational, medical and death benefits. Veterans' benefits must be applied for and are not paid automatically. There is a time limit for claiming these benefits. When filing your claim for veterans' benefits, the following documents are required:

• Copy of veteran’s marriage certificate
  
• Birth certificates of veteran’s minor children
  
• Veteran’s discharge papers
  
• Veteran’s death certificate
  
• Receipt of itemized funeral bill for veteran
