Yvonne J. McConnaughey

On November 22nd, 2022, Yvonne Juanita McConaughey passed away peacefully in her sleep.Yvonne was born November 10th, 1948 and departed November 22, 2022. She was 74 years old. A lifelong New Jersey native, Yvonne was well-loved by many families and friends. Yvonne was the mother of two sons, Norman J., and Aaron McConnaughey. Despite having a large family, Yvonne always made time for everyone and always provided support and love for her family. Yvonne helped to raise her siblings and provide opportunities for them from a very young age. She would proudly boast about her siblings and her sons, not to mention her many nieces and nephews that graduated from high school and college under her influence. She managed her son Aaron’s acting career and traveled throughout the United States and Canada with him, guiding him to auditioning and starring in multiple films, commercials and movies. She was part of a high school singing group called the Ebonettes and even had songs that she soloed, like Hold on I’m Coming – Wilson Pickett and Don’t Mess with Bill – The Marvelettes. Yvonne also did background vocals on her cousin Gwen Guthrie album (a well-known R&B artist of her generation and beyond} Oh Donny No and Just for You. 

Yvonne graduated from Barringer High School and later went on working tirelessly at PSE&G for many years, to which she later retired. She was a very hard worker, full of spirit and a joy to be in her presence. Yvonne was very fashionable and loved to go on cruises. Travelling to many places like Jamaica and a host of other islands to which she loved and enjoyed. 

Yvonne was predeceased by her father Ralph Guthrie Sr and mother Geraldine Jones Guthrie, two sisters Madeline Jasey and Adrianne Morrison, Cousin Gwen Guthrie. She is survived by her husband Norman E. McConnaughey, brothers Ralph and Terry Guthrie, sister Robin Smith, Aunt Mabel Guthrie, sons Norman J. and Aaron McConnaughey and daughter-in-law Sumiyyah McConnaughey, Karl Guthrie (Gwen Guthrie’s brother), Gwen Guthrie’s daughter’s (Kamilah Heartwell and Iyana Wakefield), plus a whole host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends
