Steven Douglas McPherson departed life’s journey on Thursday, January 30, 2025, and entered eternal rest.
Steven Douglas McPherson's life journey began on April 13, 1957, in Montclair, New Jersey, the son of his loving parents, Leonard and Helen McPherson.
A Time Of Growing Steven received his formal education in the Montclair School District. He graduated from Montclair High School in 1975 and furthered his education at Kean University in Union, NJ.
Persevering and persistent despite his medical issues, Steven was employed by BDG Technologies as an internet trainer in his early years and maintained working at UPS full-time and Amazon part-time until his health no longer permitted it.
A Music Lover. Steven loved all genres of music. He was a collector, from vinyl records to MP3. The most important piece of music was his favorite song, “Blessed Assurance.”
Spiritual Growth: Steven was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, located in Montclair, NJ. He loved the Lord and his church. Through his faithfulness, he became a Deacon in 1994. He studied and knew his Bible from front to back; God’s word he hid in his heart. He could give you a Bible verse to comfort you at any time. His favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (this scripture was a blessing to him, and it is his birthdate).
A Time to Love and Serve: Blessed with his bride, Minister Durelle McPherson. Steven and Durelle worked together by visiting the sick and shut-in, especially on the first Sundays. During the New Orleans flood disaster, Steven and Durelle hosted a young man for two summers and blessed him with God’s words of comfort and wisdom.
Unwavering Faith: As his health declined, many times weak, barely making it to doctor appointments, he found the strength to dress up, matching from head to toe to make his visitations. This was part of his positive disposition to the very end. Steven struggled for many years, but his faith did not waver or decrease. With his positive attitude, his faith and love for God moved mountains in his life’s journey. May the work he’s done speak for him. He is now resting in the arms of his best friend.
Preceded in death by his wife, Durelle McPherson, father, Leonard McPherson, and one brother, Mark McPherson.
To Mourn His Loss and Cherish His Memories: His daughter, Stephane McPherson, who had a very special bond with him. His loving mother, Helen McPherson. One Uncle, Joseph Kittrell, and two aunts, Jeanette McPherson and Janette Kittrell, and a host of cousins, relatives, church family, and friends.
Acknowledgment: We especially thank the Oncology Teams at NYU Langone, Clara Maass Hospital and Martin’s Home for Service. We also thank each of you for your prayers and kind acts of sympathy.
Steven was loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. We hold dear the incredible memories.
God loved him best, and he is now SAFE IN THE MASTER'S ARMS.
