Shirley Elaine Davis was born in Charleston, South Carolina, February 26, 1930, to the late Benjamin Jefferson and Mildred Cecile Hollins Davis. Shirley grew up in Montclair and graduated from Bluestone High School in Virginia. She also completed a number of accounting classes at Essex County College. Before retiring in 1992, Shirley was employed as a bookkeeper at National Newark and Essex Bank and Macy's Newark.
Shirley was an avid reader and puzzler, changing over to large-print puzzles as she grew older. Shirley was also a great fan of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, enthusiastically shouting out answers to the television.
Shirley was predeceased by her three brothers, Cecil B., Reuben L., and John F. Davis; and two sisters, Lillian D. Price and Catherine D. Johnson. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory sisters Mildred D. Booker and Marion D. Barnett and nieces Sharon J. Hammond (Stephon), Jodi J. Byers and Tracy L. Price, and nephew Derrick Lee and many great nieces and nephews. .
