Rosamina Matthews

Rosamina Matthews was born March 19, 1933 in Cartersville, Virginia to the late Edith Brown (November 3, 2000) and James Sterling Brown (September 7, 1978). She was sister to the late Eunice Baer.

She was  married to the late Eugene E. Matthews (March 28,2025) on August 5, 1951. They shared five beautiful children. Rosamina was committed to raising strong, caring, hardworking and educated children. Her belief was that it was her job as a loving mother to prepare her children for the life that was ahead of them and she did just that.

It was important to her that her children were loved and well cared for and instilled in them the love of God and each other. It was her heartfelt belief that Love above all else is what sustains us. Love of God and all that God creates. She loved being with and sharing with people. She would always say, “Give people more than they expect, be it in time or love.” 

Rosamina was a musician playing both the piano and organ. She loved listening to and playing music and in her youth was the musical director for the youth choir.

She worked for Verizon Communication as a Telephone Information Operator for 32 years until her retirement.

She joined The Kingdom Hall and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on July 29,2000. She enjoyed her missionary work along with studying diligently and teaching Jehovah’s word. When she could no longer join her brothers and sisters in the field she opened her home as a respite for those who still could. 

Rosamina was a fun and loving person. All who spent time with her enjoyed her company, her cooking and her wonderful hospitality. 

Although strong-willed, that will was tempered by a compassionate heart. She was always willing to listen and lend a helping hand. Rosamina was a very insightful person and a good listener. She loved getting to know people which made her easy to talk to. She never missed the opportunity to capture that all-important “teachable moment.” She would often say, “Make your No your NO and your Yes your Yes. People will always respect honesty and authenticity.”

She leaves to cherish fond memories: Three daughters: Dione J’Lyna Johnson, Sharon Piette Fuller, Lisa M. Gary and two sons Antoine Roberto Matthews, Elton Pierre Matthews; six grandchildren; Tyfany Manual, Mikel Dean, Mia Dean, Storm Johnson, Sean Jackson and Asia Matthews; eleven great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild and a host of relatives and friends.
