Ronald McCants Obituary

Ronald Lane McCants, born on September 24, 1947 in Birmingham, Alabama the youngest of two children of the late David McCants Sr. and Jesse Lane McCants, entered eternal rest on June 5, 2021.

Ronald received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 from Alabama A&M University. His interest in science led him to a sales career in pharmaceuticals with Lederle Laboratories, which eventually became Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.  He proudly shared his strong sales record for which he won multiple awards.

In 1971 Ronald married Linda Clay, of Birmingham Alabama.  This union bore two sons – Ronald Jr. and Alex.  In 1978, his marriage with Diane Thompson of Chattanooga, Tennessee bore one daughter, Ashley Juliette.  He retired in the late 1990s and eventually relocated to Montclair, New Jersey with his niece and grand-niece Cheryl and Courtney.

Ronald, a loving father, grandfather, and uncle, loved sports, especially playing tennis and rooting for the Dodgers baseball team. He enjoyed music, and played trumpet for several years. In retirement, he voraciously played bid whist beating anyone who dared to challenge his card game. Ron will be most remembered for his mischievous personality and his enduring love for family.

Ronald is preceded in death by his brother, David McCants Jr., and parents David Sr. and Jesse McCants. He is survived by three children Ronald Lane McCants Jr. (Tamara), Alex Clay McCants (Khalilah) and Ashley Juliette Quarcoo (Chartey), grandchildren Alex Jr., Chloë, Ronald III, Maddox, and Robert McCants and Samuel and Julius Quarcoo, devoted niece Cheryl McCants, grand-niece Courtney McCants, nephew David, sister-in-law Vera, and several loving relatives.
