Portia Denice Wood-Hallman, 59, of Montclair, passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2023 at her home in Montclair, NJ.

Portia was the loving daughter of George Wood Sr. and Sheila Baldwin, born on February 8, 1963 in Newark, NJ.
She was a life-long resident of Montclair and graduated from Montclair High School in 1981.

In 1982, she gave birth to Tristen J. Wood, where she began her journey into Motherhood. In the early 90’s, she attended school for Dental Assistant, where she graduated at the top of her class. Two years later, she went back to school for Phlebotomy, where again she graduated with a strong GPA. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Derek Hallman Sr. This union led to their bundle of joy, Dion T. Hallman.

Portia led a life where GOD & Love always came first. If you know, Portia as a friend or family member…then you know that you had a fighter in your corner and she will truly be missed.

Portia is preceded in death by her father, George Wood Sr.

Portia will be mourned by her husband, Derek (Naeem) Hallman, son Tristen Wood and his wife Keesha, son Dion Hallman, siblings Lorrie Velez and George Wood Jr., grandchildren Kayla, Tristen and Michael, nephews Corbin, Conor, Isaiah, Micah, nieces Samora and Skye. And her favorite friend/dog Rocko, who will miss her dearly.

The Home-Going will be held Wednesday January 18, 2023. Viewing will be from 10:00-11:00am and Funeral will be from 11:00am-12:00pm at Martin’s Home For Service with Sister Janice of New Zion Revival Temple officiating.
