Peggy Henry Ganey, daughter of Burks E. Henry and Genevieve (Alfred) Henry, was born in Bedford, Virginia on June 2, 1945. Peggy grew up with close friends and family in Bedford, but after a short while, the family moved to Washington, DC. There she attended public schools and graduated with honors from Calvin Coolidge High School. She furthered her education and attended Howard University, on scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy, also with honors. As a student at Howard, she met her future husband Dr. James H. Ganey, and eventually had two beautiful children.
Peggy practiced pharmacy in hospital and retail settings while in DC before moving to New Jersey. There she practiced pharmacy, in an industry setting, with a focus on drug safety and research for many years. While caring for her two children, she obtained her real estate license and worked for ERA Real Estate as well as continued to practice retail pharmacy in various drug stores. She ultimately retired from Merck in 2010. After her retirement and her marriage, she moved to Smyrna, Delaware to start fresh.
Peggy loved fashion and style, was always well dressed, and at 5 feet 9 inches carried herself with confidence and class. She made sure her children were well dressed, well-mannered, well-educated and well spoken. She made sure her children knew they were loved and knew how to love each other.
Peggy went home to glory on Tuesday, March 8th 2022 in West Orange, NJ at Arden Courts senior living facility.
She rejoins her parents, Genevieve and Burks, brother Burks II, her grandparents John and Sallie Alfred, and Buford and Minnie Henry, and leaves to mourn a daughter, Jayme S. Ganey of Cedar Grove, NJ, a son Christopher A. Ganey (Amber) and one granddaughter, Jordyn of Durham, NC. She also leaves other relatives and friends.
She was a member of Fountain Baptist Church in Summit, NJ.
