Otha Woods Obituary

Otha "Woody" Walter Woods was born on November 27, 1935, in Forrest City, Arkansas, to the late Hattie Grace Woods Rogers and the late Edward Woods. He was the second child and first son in his family.

Woody attended Forrest City Schools and, as a young adult, left his hometown in pursuit of greater opportunities. He eventually settled in upstate New York, where he met and married Marie Doris Deloch. From this union, three children were born: Bruce Otha, Deatrice Denice, and Kevin Woods. The family later relocated to East Orange, NJ, where Woody embarked on a career as a service technician with Arcone Oil Company. Woody graduated from Lincoln Technical school, earning certification as an HVAC Technician. Renowned for his skill and problem-solving abilities, Woody was recognized by his peers as a Master Technician, frequently sought after to resolve complex technical challenges that others could not.

Woody later met and married Tyniah Person, becoming a loving stepfather to her two sons, Terry and Shawn. With his entrepreneurial spirit, he established his own business, Woody’s Air Conditioning and Heating Company, proudly serving his community.

His faith was an integral part of his life. Woody’s early connection to church began in Forrest City, AR. Upon moving to New Jersey, he reconnected with the Messiah Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir, and later became a devoted member and deacon at New Light Baptist Church in Bloomfield, NJ.

Woody was an avid sports enthusiast who had a deep love for boxing, football, and basketball. He also showcased his talents in table tennis (ping pong), enjoyed the thrill of riding motorcycles, and engaged in strategic challenges through his passion for chess.

Woody was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Hattie, as well as his beloved children, Deatrice and Bruce. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Tyniah; his son, Kevin; and his step-sons, Terry and Shawn. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and a host of dear friends.

Woody’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith touched many lives. His legacy of hard work, love, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
