Myrna Owens Hinton of Montclair, N.J., died peacefully at home on October 8, 2021.
Ms. Hinton a registered nurse for more than 65 years, worked as a public health nurse for many years before becoming an Executive Director in Family Planning in both Essex and Middlesex County. She retired from the State of New Jersey Department of Children and Families, Regional School, Essex County where she worked as a School Nurse.
Ms. Hinton was a member of St Mark’s United Methodist Church for all of her life, where she served as Lay Speaker, Young Adult Choir, Director and President of the Gospel Choir, Chancel Choir President, Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Agape Fellowship Committee, President of the United Methodist Women and a host of other roles and responsibilities.
Ms. Hinton was Past President of the Montclair Chapter of the National Council of Negro Women, Member of the Baroque Chorale; Soul Stomper Parent Committee and in more recent years an active member of MNDC Doo Drop Inn, Senior Citizens at Glenfield Parkhouse. Ms. Hinton was recently honored as a Grand Marshall at the 2021 Montclair African American Heritage Parade.
She is predeceased in death by her parents, Richard L. Owens, Sr. and Martha Johns Owens. Her brother Richard L. Owens, Jr. and her son in law, Rev. Alvin R. Jacobs.
She leaves to mourn her children, William G. Hinton Jr., Kevin M. Ali, Keith M. (Kathy) Ali, Marilyn Jacobs. Her grandchildren, Damika Hinton, Sharif Ali, Joshua Rivera, Yomi Entzminger-Hinton (Kaleihah); Shakira (Joseph) Boisseau, Oniyebiye Entzminger-Hinton, Talisa Ali, Caleb Jacobs and Noah Jacobs. Great Grandchildren, Daniel Nixon, Ayoka Entzminger-Hinton, Abiola Entzminger-Hinton and Olori Gaston. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
