Mary Lorene Dunn Malone was born in Aton, Virginia on May 11, 1937 to Mr. Fleming Dunn and Ana Roberta Lea. She attended Marion Bethune High School and graduated in 1957. Thereafter, she met and married John Robert Malone in 1957. John and Mary moved from Alton, Virginia to Montclair, New Jersey where they had two daughters, Tammy L’yvonne and Theresa Ann.
Mary was a housewife for a while until she began volunteering at Edgemont Elementary school and eventually was employed by the Montclair Board of Education. She loved her work as a teacher’s aide and a Special Education teacher’s aide
Mary was an active member at Union Baptist Church for over 20 years as a Sunday School teacher. She loved working with and was adored by all. Her favorite past times were tending to her house plants, planting flowers in her garden, and watching the Mets play ball.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Malone, her brothers John Dunn, Rufus Dunn, and sister SeDorothy Hand. She is survived by her two daughters Tammy Malone Handy, Theresa Strickland, son-in-law Eric Handy, two granddaughters TE Alexia Strickland and Taja Strickland, her great grandson Terrence Williamson, Jr, her sister Anna Dunn Bullock, brother Fleming Dunn, sister Shirley Dunn, and brother James Dunn, and a host of nieces of nephews.
