Linda S. Brown was born in Douglasville, Georgia on December 9, 1940, to the late Eugene Smith and Easter Mae Taylor Smith. She was the fifth of nine children born to that union. She was educated in Douglasville, Georgia and graduated from the R. L. Cousins High School. While in high school she played basketball and sang with her sisters at various churches throughout Douglas County.
Linda attended Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia for two years, after which she journeyed to Asbury Park, New Jersey to live with her sister, Alma Jean Brown. While there she met and became engaged to Reginald T. Brown, the love of her life and the two married on March 23, 1963. Linda and Reginald moved to Montclair, New Jersey and from that union two children were born: Bradford Reginald Brown and Michele Diane Brown. She later resumed her education and attended Essex County Community College and Jersey City State University completing her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Education. Linda worked as a middle school English & Language Arts Teacher at the Hart Complex; Sojourner Truth Middle School for 26 years until she retired.
Linda joined the St. Paul Baptist Church under the pastorship of the Rev. Dr.Sampson and became involved in the Education ministry of the church. She served as the Director of the Family Vacation Bible School for over 20 years. She was a leader in the youth music ministry and directed the Cherub choir for over two decades. She also participated in the Baptist Young People Union.
Linda joined the St. Paul Gospel Chorus and directed the adult choir for over 20 years. She also co-directed the St. Paul Handbell Chorus which traveled all over Essex County playing in various venues.
Linda became a Deaconess under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. V. Dwayne Battle where she continued her spiritual journey and servant devotion to others. She had an unassuming attitude and could work with anyone. She loved her Deaconess sisters and looked forward to meeting and working with them on a regular basis.
Linda enjoyed socializing and working with the Quettes, the wives/girlfriends of the Brothers of Eta Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Together these women provided support to the Brothers of Eta Pi as they fulfilled their commitment to Service in the community.
Linda was a Christian woman who loved the Lord. She loved God, her family, music and children. She was a faithful and devoted wife, a loving mother, and a committed friend. She slipped away on Monday, July 10, 2023 after a long and full life of service to the Lord. She fought a good fight; she finished her course and she kept her faith. She will be missed.
She leaves to rejoice in her life, her husband Reginald T.; son Bradford R. (Darlene), daughter-in-law, Michele D; three grandchildren Brittany R., Brianna R.; Ryan Bradford Reginald and a host of family and friends.
