Katherine “Kat” was born on January 25, 1937 and was the third child of the late James C. Middleton and Williemae Middleton (nee Torrence) joining sister Alice and brother James (Jimmy). Baby sister Gloria arrived a few years later. Kat attended the Bloomfield Public School system graduating from Bloomfield High School. Following her graduation, Kat attended the business school Comptometer School in Newark.
Kat was married to the late Bobby Ray Morton and from that union her son Robert James was born. After working at Calvin Klein for many years, Kat worked in the payroll department at Unilever in
Englewood Cliffs before retiring many years ago. Kat, while not the greatest cook, made a mean macaroni salad. She would leave gatherings early saying that she had “to go to bed.” She had to get up early because she had to let her pores close before heading out after her shower. At Christmas, you could expect to get a bag of shower gels and lotions and on your birthday, you can expect a call with her singing an off-key rendition of “Happy Birthday”. Kat loved teddy bears, Wrigley’s spearmint gum and black licorice. Some of Kat’s favorite activities was attending tricky trays and going to Atlantic City and Gaithers Vocal Band concerts with her ride or die Carol Ward. When she retired, she enjoyed going to the mall with her sisters, Alice and Gloria stopping for lunch at
Popeye’s. Kat enjoyed her family, always spoiling her nieces and nephews. She was overjoyed when her son and daughter-in-love, Alba gave her a granddaughter, Katharyn. Kat was fortunate to see her great grandchildren, Olivia and Theo.
Kat made her transition on September 22, 2022. She will always be remembered as someone who was no nonsense and gave it to you straight as well as a kind-hearted person.
Kat was predeceased by her sister, Alice Fuller and brother James Middleton.
She leaves to mourn her sister Gloria Williams, her son, Bobby Morton and daughter-in-love, Alba, granddaughter Katharyn Schautz and her husband Billy Schautz and great grandchildren, Olivia and Theo. She also leaves to mourn her beloved nieces, Venus Gessesse, Dianna Fuller, Debbie Middleton, Cierra Middleton, Cheryl Middleton, and Yvonne Daniels along with her niece and godchild, Nicole Williams. Her memory will also be cherished by her nephews Paul Fuller, Deshaun Fuller and Retta Gessesse and godchild Michael George Cason along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
