Reflections of Life
Janette Vaughn Holland Kittrell a.k.a. “Aunt Tootsie” was born October 1, 1936, in Louisa, Virginia, to Thomas Holland, Sr. and Julia Holland.
Janette was educated in the Louisa, Virginia, school system. She later moved to Montclair, New Jersey. She was employed at Bendix for over 30 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, Montclair, New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Julia Holland, her beloved husband, Robert Kittrell, and her daughter, Robin Kittrell. Her Sisters, Blanche Parks, Ruth Walker, Mattie Hicks, Hossiane Farrar, her brothers Thomas Holland, Jr., Leonard Holland, Phillip Holland, and Early Holland.
Janette experienced some health challenges but remained determined to stay in her home. For a while, this was made possible because of caring neighbors, Melinda and Jesus Serrano, who watched out for her. Unable to care for herself, “Aunt Tootsie” moved to Saddle Brook, New Jersey, with her Nephew Gregory Walker and his wife Debora, who faithfully attended to her every need.
A special thanks to the staff at Veterans Memorial and Nursing Home in Paramus, New Jersey, who cared for her until her demise on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
Janette was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed traveling home to Virginia to spend time with her family during the holidays.
“Aunt Tootsie will be remembered for her grace, intellect, and kindness. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Janette leaves behind her sister, Marjorie Fitzgerald of New Jersey; her brother, Ronnie Holland (Phyllis) of Louisa, Virginia; Helen McPhearson, sister-in-law; Joe Kittrell, brother-in-law; and a host of
nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
