Hilton Rose Obituary

Hilton Junius Rose went home to be with the Lord Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, N.J.

He was born in Madison Heights, Va. to the late Ardney and Norman Rose on March 23, 1939.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick (Ricky) Rose, Margie Jefferson Rose (sister-in-law) and sister, Phyllis Rose Morgan.

He received his formal education in the Amherst County Virginia school system.  At an early age, Hilton joined Scott Zion Baptist Church in Madison Heights, Va.  After serving in the U.S. Navy, Hilton moved to Newark, N.J. to live with his Aunt Lillie Cox.  New Jersey is also where Hilton met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Mitchell, and on April 4, 1964; they united in Holy Matrimony.  This union produced two lovely daughters, Kimberly Ann and Pamela Lazet Rose of South Orange, NJ

Hilton joined and served at Gospel Tabernacle Newark, NJ, and later joined and served at St. Paul Baptist Church, Montclair, New Jersey.

Hilton was a visionary.  While pursuing his career, first at Wholesale Drugs and later with Hoffman LaRoche in Nutley, he and Betty began to save diligently and invest in real estate with the vision of becoming successful entrepreneurs.  The diligent pursuit of their dreams allowed Hilton to retire from Roche at the youthful age of 50!  Corporate retirement was a catalyst for Hilton to further their accomplishments.  He went on to earn the credentials to become a licensed contractor and BUILDER, establishing from the ground up, two multi-family homes on Palm Street in Newark, NJ.

Hilton's humorous ways and gregarious spirit brought light into many lives. He engaged "folks" on every level, and was all about helping people.  He hardly sat still! And, being on-the-go he became well known and loved as a figure in the communities where he invested and mentored young men. He was greeted affectionally every day in his travels, commonly referred to as "Rose", "Boss", "Mr. Rose", "Junie", "Uncle Jun-Jun", and "Pop-pop" by the youngest generation.

Hilton is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Betty) Rose and two daughters, Kimberly Ann of Washington, D.C., and Pamela Rose Greene (Jesse) of Montclair,, NJ; Grandaughter, Alexci Sommer Greene. Brothers; James Rose (Katherine), Ivan Rose, and Roger Rose all of Madison Heights, Va.  Sisters; Mrs. Ella Mae Callands, Janice Franklin-Parker (Martin), all of Madison Heights, Va.  Three sisters-in-law; Dorothy Brown (John) of Maplewood, N.J., Helen Bennett (Reubin), of Kingston, N.C., Julia Humphries, of Garner, N.C. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
