Gregory Ingram Obituary

Gregory Leon Ingram, affectionately known to everyone as Greg, aka Hassan, graced the world with his presence on September 29, 1964, in Americus, Georgia. He was the fourth oldest child born to Catherine Taylor and the late Norise Ingram. Greg slipped into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in Elizabeth, NJ.

Greg began his educational journey in his childhood hometown of Americus, Georgia. He later relocated with his family to Elizabeth, NJ, where he attended Elizabeth public schools. He moved to Irvington and attended Irvington High School, and soon after went on to serve in the United States Army. Following his time in the service, he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Grant. From this union came three children: Najiyyah, Kiana, and Gregory Jr. The couple would later divorce and on April 29, 2017, he married Valerie Scott-Ingram. Greg was employed for many years at Brookhaven Nursing Facility. He was also an elite pro boxer with the Golden Gloves Boxing Club on Grove Street in Irvington, NJ.

Greg greatly impacted the lives of many through his infectious smile and explosive laughter. He was known for his jokes, his lengthy speeches, and his ability to bring joy to those around him. He was a loving protector and a natural disciplinarian— dependable and strong. He was a straight shooter and a truth-teller at heart, always ready with the best advice. Known for his distinct walk, recognizable from a mile away, Greg was the brother, father, and uncle who taught everyone how to fight and how to win. Above all, he loved his family immensely.

Greg dedicated his life to the Lord and attended Wells Cathedral COGIC in Newark, NJ, under the leadership of the late Bishop Hersey L. Taylor. He later joined Grace
Temple Baptist Church in Newark, NJ, where he was ordained a Deacon under the leadership of Rev. Floyd Gaskins and served under Rev. Keith Oden until his demise.

Greg is preceded in death by his father, Norise Ingram; his oldest sister, Norise Ingram; grandmother, Rosa B. Anthony; aunt, Louise Taylor Gordon; uncle, Jimmy Lee Taylor; and nephews, Stephen “Stevie” Walker Jr. and Louis Abney Jr.

He leaves to celebrate and cherish his memory: his wife, Valerie Scott-Ingram; children, Najiyyah Ingram, Kiana Ingram, and Gregory Ingram Jr.; grandchildren, Elisha Ingram, Megan Ingram, Jamari Ingram, and Ade Griffin; his mother, Catherine Taylor; four siblings, Ricky Taylor, Leather Ingram, Arlene (James) Dunlap, and Bobbie (Norman) Alleyne; nieces and nephews, Latanya Bailey, Leon Abney, Najiyyah Alexandre, Nagerrah Ingram, Shaquwanna Abney, Daquwann Walker, Jaleesa McKnight, James Dunlap III, Naji Crossen, and Shayla Alleyne; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives.
