Grace J McWhorter

Grace Juanita Ellis McWhorter was born on June 4,1932 to Emily Hurt and Abraham Ellis in East Orange New Jersey.  She was  the oldest of three brothers, Marvin, Lawrence, and Ralph who preceded her in death.

The family relocated to Montclair New Jersey in 1945.  Mom graduated from Montclair High in 1950.  She attended Panzer College which is now a part of Montclair State to become a Health and Physical Education teacher.  She graduated in 1954.  While at Panzer  college she met the love of her life Louis C McWhorter.  They were married in July 1956.  She fondly referred to him as her "Honey" as he called her is "Lady".

To this union were born three beautiful children,  her first born Brian, who passed away in 2015, her second son Bruce and a daughter, Beverly.  

Grace began her career in teaching in the Passaic School District.  After leaving the Passaic School District she continued her teaching career in Physical Education Health in the Newark School District for 31 year's .  Grace was also a certified life guard who taught swimming as an overnight camp counselor.  Grace loved all sports,   was on the college basketball team  but her favorite sport was swimming.

Grace was devoted wife and Mother to her family.  She was the quiet, soft spoken voice that brought joy to the Franklin Place neighborhood.  Her door was always open at 42 Franklin Place was the neighborhood playground.  Mom never missed her son's basketball games.

Her first love was her family, her second love was educating youth about bodies and personal hygiene.   When Grace entered the gym in her well put together sweat suits with matching sneakers and a whistle around her neck, every student knew it was time to exercise and sweat non-stop.

After retirement Grace a lover of reading joined the 3-R-Book Club. Retired, Rejuvenated  Reader's.  She also loved to knit scarves and blankets as well as play games on her I-Pad.  

Grace J McWhorter leaves to cherish her memory her loving children Bruce and Beverly and beloved dog Lucy.  Grandchildren,  Brian the II, Wayne and Marcus McWhorter;  Great grandchildren, Brian the III, Brandy, Cecilia and Matthew;  Great Great Grand daughter's  Nyshia and Myla.  Daughter in laws Sandra McWhorter Brian (Big Mac) McWhorter  wife  and Sally McWhorter (Brian the II wife). and a host of family and friends and  Franklin Place neighbors.
