Evelyn (Hill) Jordan

In Loving Memory of Evelyn Sammie Jordan

 

           Evelyn Jordan was born on January 28,1932 in Augusta, Georgia. She was the youngest child & only daughter to Samuel & Susan Hill. Just 3 days prior to her 91st birthday. Evelyn departed her life on January 25, 2023 in East Orange, New Jersey. In the 1940's Evelyn & her family migrated from Augusta, Georgia to Newark, New Jersey. She resided with her family on Lincoln Street, Newark, N.J. While residing in Newark. Evelyn attended public school & graduated from East Side High School. 

          In 1949, at the early age of 17. Evelyn married Richard Jordan, Sr. From their union, they had 2 children. Evelyn enjoyed her life as a wife, mother & homemaker. She was known for her big brown eyes, beautiful smile, strong, witty, & sassy personality. She always knew exactly what she wanted & always spoke her mind. Evelyn loved to cook, listen to music, go to broadway shows & travel to the Caribbean. As we all know, Evelyn had an extraordinary sense of fashion. She adored her gold jewelry, designer clothes, handbags & shoes. Hair & make-up were a huge part of her signature style. She was always a fashion statement from head to toe. 

          In her fifties, Evelyn began working as a mail clerk, up until she retired some 15 years later. Evelyn is preceded in death, by her brothers, Samuel Hill Jr & Henry Hill. Her son Richard Jordan, Jr & daughter Loretta Jordan-Simpson. As well as her grandson Kevin Jordan. 

          Evelyn is survived by her husband Richard Jordan Sr. Grandchildren: Antoinette, Michael, Tanya, Yolanda & Dorian. Great-grandchildren: Darriyah, Tanajah, Aidan, Alex, Makieh & Brianna.

A host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.

          Evelyn had a great sense of humor. She told funny jokes often & loved to make those around her laugh. Evelyn was loved & adored by many.
