Edith Mae Sirmons, affectionately known as Edie, was promoted to her home in heaven on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Edie, daughter of the late Marcus and Armanda Sirmons was a lifelong resident of Nutley, NJ. She was a graduate of Nutley High School and went on work for Hoffman LaRoche in Nutley, NJ where she became Manager in Packaging Materials Division until her retirement. While working Edie went on to earn her Associates degree in Fine Arts from Fairleigh Dickenson University, as well as Rutgers University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree.
After the tragic death of her beloved son Keith Sirmons in 2003, Edie literally reinvented herself, as a talented writer of short stories, became a well-known local artist of many mediums from paper quilling greeting cards, to ceramics, to charcoal sketching to oil/acrylic paints. Her work has appeared in local libraries, as well as The Montclair Art Museum. Edie was also an accomplished crochet and knitting artist, often making her own patterns. Even with her growing involvement in her artistry, Edie always made time to keep in touch with relatives and friends, even spending a few days during the week keeping the sick and elderly company within the town. She had the amazing ability to patiently listen to others, without judgement or bias and always managed to encourage and give hope
Edie attended Christ Church in Montclair in 1998 where she became a member, volunteering in their business offices, Sound Ministry and Greeters Ministry.
Edie is survived by her sister Annie Gillen, niece Nannette Martin, great niece Sharaya Phillips, great nephew, Kyle Martin.
Although Edie was a very private individual, her kind and cheerful nature, keen wit, heart of compassion and wise discernment was beloved by all.
