Delzal Moss Obituary

We greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in celebrating the life of Delzal Carolyn Brown Moss who passed from this life on Wednesday morning September 28th, 2022.

Delzal C. Moss was born on April 7, 1955 in Orange, New Jersey to Maxine Scott and Alfred Brown.  Delzal (Del) was the youngest of six brothers and sisters.  She was raised by her grandmother and namesake, Delzal E. Brown, along with her six sons. Her father Alfred and her uncles Eugene (Pompei), Harvey, Jack, Clarence, and Robert (Bobby) Brown all referred to Del as “Baby Del” and raised her for the majority of her child to adolescent life.

Delzal (Del) was a true Montclairian. Del went to Montclair schools. She was a woman of deep faith and served at Trinity Presbyterian Church Montclair for 53 years (since she was a child of 14). Del served both as Deacon and Elder to Rev. Archie Hargraves, Rev. Allen Shelton, and Rev. Dr. Anita Wright. Aside from her family and work duties, Del was heavily involved in the church and the Montclair community. Her involvement included Moderator and Treasurer of Presbyterian Women in the Congregation, Trinity’s Evangelism Committee, Founder of Trinity’s Summer Youth Academy (TSYA), Adopt-A-Family, and annual Christmas Programs for Behavioral Health patients and children of inmates, and many more social causes. Del gave continuously with no second thoughts, and often personally hand-delivered meals to families on holidays as well.

Above all Del’s main priority was providing for her family and being a wife to her husband of 35 years, D. Frank Moss and mother to Rosa Moss. These were her most coveted titles. Del worked for many years at UMDNJ (now Rutgers University) and rose to be Director of Benefits and Compensation Services statewide. She worked hardest to achieve the highest goals, and accomplishments to provide for her family. Along with her husband, Del was a mother figure and cared for her nieces: Felipa (children: Julia and Ava), Samia (children: Nova), and Camilia (children: Jaylyn and Lily) long before the birth of her only daughter Rosa Moss.

Delzal had such a kind, gentle heart and spirit. Del always put others before herself. Whether it was giving meals for her aides at home, or to the nurses in the hospitals, Del gave everything she could to those she cared about.
With this in mind, we will continue to live out Del’s legacy by giving selflessly, and working through adversity. She will forever be in our hearts, minds, and souls. Del’s memory will be cherished by a large host of family, friends, and a cloud of witnesses. Heaven has truly gained another angel. Love you mom! Until we meet again, God Bless.
