Betty Ann Bryant, born Betty Ann Crawford, entered eternal rest on December 14, 2025, at the age of 76. She was born on January 11, 1949, in St. Matthews, South Carolina, to Andrew Crawford and Janie Clay (Jamison) Crawford. Betty graduated from Wilkinson High School in South Carolina in 1967. In her professional career, she served the Legal Aid Society as a supervising secretary.
Betty was a woman of deep faith and steady love. She was an active and devoted member of Union Baptist Church, where she found strength, purpose, and community. She will be remembered for her humor, generosity, kind heart, and her unshakable belief in her Lord and Savior. Raised in a family grounded in the Word of God and the practice of kindness, Betty carried those values throughout her life and passed them down with grace, love and intention.
Family was central to Betty’s life. She loved her siblings deeply, and even in moments of disagreement, she never stopped seeing them as pieces of her heart. They were her support, her history, and her friends. She also cherished the years she spent with her mother, who served as a strong matriarch of the family and instilled values and principles that shaped Betty’s life and guided the generations that followed.
Betty was a proud mother to her son, Dr. Arian L. Bryant, and she never missed a chance to remind him how much she loved him. She was also deeply proud of her grandson, Dominique Anthony Bryant, and the kind, thoughtful, and intelligent young man he has become.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Isaac Bryant, whom she married in 1974; her brother, Eugene Jamison; and her parents.
Betty is survived by her beloved son, Dr. Arian L. Bryant, and her cherished grandson, Domininque Anthony Bryant. She loved them both deeply and took immense pride in them. She told her son every chance she got how much she loved him, and she often spoke with awe about the kind heart and spirit of her grandson.
She is also survived by her eldest brother, Bobby Crawford, who carried himself as a protector, whether near or far. She is survived by her youngest brother, Robert L. Utsey Jr., Esq., whom she adored and often praised for his gentle heart, as well as her loving sister-in-law, Robin J. Utsey. She is also survived by her sister, Caroline Hawkins, whose unflinching resolve, honesty, and love meant the world to her, and by her brother-in-law, Marvin Hawkins. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Patricia Utsey, whom she loved deeply and for whom she remained profoundly grateful. Patricia’s steady support through life’s difficult moments and her unwavering strength were a true comfort to Betty. She is also survived by three aunts; Stacie Snell, Evelyn Funchess, and Emma Clinton; two uncles, Jacob Jamison and Shelly Funchess, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Last, but certainly not least, she is survived by the love of her life and life partner of the past 15 years, Phillip J. Hines, whom she loved with every ounce of her being. Betty made it clear to her family how incredibly important he was to her, and he walked with her in love, support, and devotion to the very end.
Betty’s life was a blessing, her love was steady, and her lessons will remain. Sleep well, Betty. You will never be forgotten.
