Olga Audrus Anita Miller “Mama” was born on November 16, 1926, in Barbados, The British West Indies, to Mildred and Percey Miller.
Being her mother’s only child, Audrus resided in a home in Barbados with her Grandmother Eunice and her three aunts; Aunt Iris, Aunt Rue, and Aunt Lo. Her mother moved to the United States in 1939, leaving her with her Grandmother, Eunice, to provide a better life for her family.
When Audrus was 10 years old, her grandmother passed away, and she remained living with her three aunts. When Audrus turned 16 years old, she met her first love, Deighton Griffith, Sr. Being the smooth talking, handsome gentleman that he was, he pursued his love interest in Audrus. Deighton used to always whisper in her ear “ One day I am oing to marry you.” putting a huge smile on her face.
In 1947, Audrus had to leave her love Deighton, to join her mother in the United States. She moved to Montclair, NJ. In 1956, her mother purchased a home on Mission Street. Audrus and Deighton kept in tough. Shortly after, he came to the U.S. and reunited with his love.
On September 26, 1957, Audrus and Deighton became united as one. Audrus then gave birth to her son, Deighton Griffith Jr., on December 9, 1958 and her daughter Anita Patricia Griffith on April 14, 1963. By 1967, Deighton and Audrus purchased their first home on Harrison Ave in Montclair, where they raised their two children.
Shortly after, Audrus mother got sick, so she moved her family into her mother’s home on Mission Street, while still maintaining her own home. She cared for her mother until the day she passed away. Audrus and Deighton then took over the home on Mission Street.
On July 17, 2006, Audrus layed her beloved husband Deighton to rest. Not a day went by that she didn’t miss him. Mama continued to be surrounded by her loving family and friends during her time of grievance.
On December 20, 2018, the lord called on Audrus to be reunited with her beloved husband.
Left to cherish Audrus memories are her two children, Deighton Griffith Jr. and Anita Griffith, her stepdaughter Deighteen Holder; her five grandchildren. Michael Griffith Sr., James Chance Jr., Nadir Ayers, Mastacia Chance ad Maurise Griffith; her great grandchildren, Najih Chance-Pennix, Jarkni Chance, Nasir Chance-Pennix, Michael Griffith Jr., Ma-khi Griffith, Kyrie Chance and Tatum Robinson; and host family and friends who loved and cherished her deeply.
Mama was not just a mother and grandmother for her family, she cared for everyone who crossed her path and too them in as if they were own we will all her deeply.
