Obituary

Barber, Audrey Ellen Austin passed away peacefully at her home in Montclair, New Jersey on Friday August 21, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Hattie Austin; husband Frank M. Barber; sisters, Cordelia Edwards, Joyce Williams and brother William Austin. She is survived by her sister Barbara Greene and two sons Frank and Ronald Barber and daughter Karen Randolph; daughters in law Cheryl Barber and Laverne Barber; grandchildren, twins Mikele and Melisa Barber, Robert and Carla Randolph and Anthony Barber; and a great granddaughter, Ashanti Barber; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who adored her lovingly. 

 

Audrey graduated from Montclair High School and after was married to Frank M. Barber in 1950. Their marriage spanned a period of 64 years until Frank passed away in 2016. Growing up, Audrey was involved with her parents and siblings in a wide array of church activities at Union Baptist Church in Montclair. Early on she accepted Jesus Christ as her lord and savior. Audrey had a long and successful career as a Pharmaceutical Lab Technician at Organon Pharmaceutical Corporation in West Orange, New Jersey. She enjoyed company bowling and softball; and was an avid gardener and admirer of all kinds of plants and flowers especially sun flowers. She also enjoyed and was a master at reupholstering and slipcovering chairs and sofas and she loved to sew and knit. She loved to cook and excitedly she welcomed the holidays where she prepared her home for the family and many wonderful festivities and dinners. Many of her weekends were filled with trips to local estate sales to search for antiques and rare household items. There was a private service for the family at Martin`s Home for Service in Montclair on Monday, August 31, 2020.
