Obituary

Harriette Dolores Nash, 76, of Montclair, NJ passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday January 21st, 2021. She was born in New York, NY on March 10, 1944 to Oscar Lurie Scott and Lucille (Hines) Scott, who preceded her in death. Harriette was the youngest of four children. Her sisters Sonia Waithe and Aurelia McClean, and brother Walter Scott preceded her in death. On September 16, 1967, she was joined in Holy matrimony to Arnold W. Nash, Jr. They have 2 loving sons, Arnold W. Nash III, and Marlin L. Nash. Harriette was a force of nature - she was an avid gardener, an animal lover, a wonderful cook (fish cakes and souse were two of her specialties), an activist and passionate advocate, a selfless volunteer who went out of her way to help those less fortunate, a fashion icon, and she really really loved a good garage sale. Harriette's big personality filled the room - and she fiercely loved her family, friends, and neighbors. But she will be best remembered for her ability to always speak her mind and to let you know exactly what she thought. Harriette leaves behind to cherish her loving memories; her devoted husband of 53 years Arnold W. Nash, Jr.; her two sons Arnold W. Nash III and Marlin L. Nash; her daughter-in-law Nicole Nash; her three grandsons, Christian J. Nash, Marcel A. Nash, and Arnold W. Nash IV; sister Charlene Wilson, brother Oscar Scott, best friend Shirley Freeman, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. The Nash Family acknowledges with deepest appreciation all the thoughts, prayers, acts of kindness offered during this difficult time. Although our hearts are broken, we take solace in the fact that Harriette is in heaven dancing with her siblings again, and that she's probably already had multiple chats with God on how she can help to make things in heaven run even more efficiently. We are planning a celebration of Harriette's life in Summer 2021 when hopefully COVID restrictions will be lifted enough for us to gather and celebrate together.
