Obituary

Geraldine Walker-Yarborough was born to the late Percy and Frances Garrett on September 29, 1939, in Newark, New Jersey; two children were born from this union. Geraldine was educated in the Newark Public School System.

Geraldine is the mother of five, Roslyn Walker-Pit, Sharon Walker-Porter, Ronald Yarborough, Denise Yarborough, and Curtis Yarborough.

In the early 1970's Geraldine attended MANPOWER, a governmental-based program created to provide job training and opportunities.   Upon completing training, Geraldine secured employment with the United States Postal Service. Geraldine was the first employee hired at the New York Bulk and Foreign Mail Center in Secaucus, New Jersey.

Geraldine enjoyed a long and lucrative career at the United States Postal Service.  While employed, Geraldine worked in various positions; her hard work and willingness to excel allowed her to be elevated to the Transportation Division, where she was responsible for logging and maintaining the transportation records.   Geraldine was well-known at the Post office; she was affectionately known to her work family as "Gerry."   After 40 years of meritorious service, Geraldine retired in January of 2013.

In retirement, Geraldine experienced a number of health challenges.  Nonetheless, she did not allow these challenges to slow her down; Geraldine lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed her grandchildren and her loved ones; she also loved playing cards with friends, and even though she was receiving dialysis treatment three times a week, she still had the unique ability to make friends wherever she went.

A few days ago, Geraldine Garrett Walker-Yarborough was rejoined with her parents, sister, and children who preceded her in death:  Percy and Frances Garrett; sister, Juanita Walker; daughters Sharon Walker Porter and Denise Yarborough; and son Ronald Yarborough.

Geraldine is survived by: her daughter, Roslyn Walker-Pit and son, Curtis Yarborough;  grandsons: Duwaine Walker, Kevin Walker, Ronald Yarborough-Johnson, Peter Walker, Ronald Yarborough III, and De'Von Green; granddaughters: Sharonda Walker, April Walker, Lakeitha Keshia Shells, Delores Tari White; and great-grandchildren: Davon Walker, Kahiem Walker, and Christopher Walker.
