Obituary

The sun rose for Edna Colvin (née Adkins) on October 12, 1933.  She was brought into this world by Waverly Adkins and Edna Adkins in Cumberland, Virginia.  Edna was one of nine children.  She was raised and educated in Cumberland, where she attended elementary school, and later went on to graduate from high school.

After graduating high school, Edna relocated to New Jersey, where she met Paul Colvin.  The two were later married.  From that union, she gave birth to two daughters, Doreen and Denise.  While she did have various occupations, Edna spent most of her work life as a home health aid, and assisted in caring for those who could not care for themselves.  She was always attentive and kind to her patients, which did not go unnoticed.  She retired in 1980.  Edna attended The Goodlife Adult Daycare Center until it was closed due to the pandemic.  shortly after, she returned back to Virginia with her daughter Denise.

Edna was an easygoing, kind and uncomplicated woman, and enjoyed the simple things in life.  She enjoyed cooking for her family.  Edna also enjoyed playing bingo at her local church.  She loved the beach, and the warm sun, sand and ocean water.  It was a place of tranquility for her.  Edna loved the color blue, and enjoyed dancing, and spending time with her family and friends.  She never missed an opportunity to share in laughter and memories with her brothers and sisters.  In her later years, she loved the time she spent with her grandson Karriem and his wife Mishanda, and her great grandchildren.  The sun set peacefully on Edna's life on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

Edna is survived by her two daughters, Doreen Colvin of Orange, NJ, and Denise Colvin of Williamsburg Virginia, and Denise's friend/companion Jean Pierre.  She also leaves behind her cherished grandson Karriem Wardlow and his wife Mishanda Wardlow of Maplewood, NJ, and her adored great grandchildren Jazmine, Kennedi, and Lilianna.  She leaves to mourn her sisters Caroline Wicker and Juanita Jones of New York, and Mattie Trent of Virginia, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
